My wife was browsing through some Yelp reviews the other day and came across Taquaria La Flamme. “It’s got 5 stars!” she exclaimed. “People seem to love it, this guys says he has been looking for good Mexican in Boise for a long time, and found it!” Having lived for a bit in San Diego, we know good Mexican, and Boise hasn’t had it. There are a few places we haunt when we are desperate for huge Bean and Cheese Burrito, but it’s nothing like the right above the border Taco Shops we were accustomed to. But we may now have a contender.
We pulled into La Flamme, and the first thing I noticed was that it was full of people speaking Spanish. This is a good sign for a local Taco Shop. If those who know good Mexican food come here for a large dinner with their extended families, we just may be onto something. The staff was incredibly friendly. They even gave our kids free drinks just because they are so nice. They tried Horchata for the first time- my son was so-so about it. My daughter seemed to love it.
Given we have two little kids, bean and cheese burritos and quesadillas are high on our menu. I broke the mold and also ordered a three taco plate of Carne Asada, Pollo, and Carnitas. All very good, but the Pollo was astounding. I ordered it again when we came back (and we have been back, and back, and back). I should have ordered their fish tacos (YES! Fish tacos! In Boise!) when they were on special one Sunday, I chickened out and went for the pollos taco’s again, but there is always next week…
