Stack Rock Trail

Up, up, up beyond the well worn trails of Hull’s Gulch and Military Reserve there lies a newer system of trails that are definately worth exploring around Bogus Basin. I have yet to spend a considerable amount of time up in the treeline- but the plans and the desire are there. One trail I have done a number of times, and did this past Saturday is Stack Rock trail. This number goes from a little parking alcove along the trees on Bogus Basin road, meanders down some single track until you hit an old logging road. You take the logging road (now well marked thanks to our fantastic Ridge to Rivers trail system) as it takes you up and down the back side of the Boise front ridge until you it the final- rather breathtaking final ascent up to Stack Rock. I say breathtaking literally- it’s a hard climb! Once you are at Stack Rock- soak in the views that stretches all over the treasure valley to the Owyhees- it’s a killer view. Not an easy ride, but not the hardest either. The view is well worth it, and it’s just nice to ride in the trees as opposed to foothills every once in a while.
